DRAGONS: The Serbian Knucker

      A corpulent reptile, the Serbian Knucker may well be described as one of the horses of the draconic world, considering the great number of knights who greatly appreciate the strangely calm and gentle trotting of this creature, who readily accepts the harness and saddle as soon as it is trained, showing great intelligence. Covered with dark green scales, this dragon has a flat face like that of an Ethiopian Wyvern, but this in no way disturbs its breathing, aided by large nostrils and lungs similar to those of a Croatian Wyrm, and can reach 70 km/h in full gallop . Its claws resemble hooves, enabling better traction with the stony ground of the mountainous regions of Serbia. A predator who prefers to tire prey by pursuing it - boars and deer are its main victims, as well as fish and aquatic rodents in rivers - the Serbian Knucker is among the most popular breeds in exhibits, easily recognizable by its long, coppery colored horns.
      Pre-Roman cultures already had these corpulent beasts as hunting companions and guardians, classically adorning their scaly leather with symbolic paintings and their long horns with bone and animal teeth collars that they helped locate. A single Serbian Knucker would be able to increase by five times the success of the hunting of a nomadic tribe, being prohibited to anyone the slaughtering of one of these animals unless it was already very old - what for draconic terms would be something like 200 years. During Roman rule, the provinces of Illyria and Upper Mesia were a dangerous place for these beasts, then hunted by long metal horns or to fight in arenas all over Europe. In the Middle Ages and also in the Modern Age, little human activity was shook on this already rare variety of knucker, since the Balkans were inhabited mainly by Slavs, historical dragons, Byzantines, whose religion preserved the beasts of the Catholic hunters , and by Muslims, who see dragons as a gift from Allah to the world. It was after the nineteenth century that things became complicated for all the dragons that inhabited the Balkans, which would become the scene of revolutions, armed conflicts and ethnic cleansing for almost the entire length of the twentieth century. Nowadays, dragonologists from around the world are struggling to find these creatures in their habitat, as it is commonly said that the greatest individuals in captivity do not reach the feet of the majesty of a savage Serbian Knucker.

      Um réptil corpulento, o Knucker Sérvio pode muito bem ser descrito como um dos cavalos do mundo dracônico, considerando o grande número de cavaleiros que muito apreciam o trotar estranhamente calmo e suave desta criatura, que aceita rapidamente o arnês e a sela assim que é treinado, denotando grande inteligência. Coberto de escamas verde escuras, este dragão tem a cara achatada como a de um Wyvern Etíope, porém isso em nada atrapalha sua respiração, auxiliada por narinas grandes e pulmões similares aos de um Wyrm Croata, podendo chegar a 70 Km/h em pleno galope. Suas garras se assemelham a cascos, possibilitando melhor tração com o chão pedregoso das regiões montanhosas das Sérvia. Um predador que prefere cansar a presa perseguindo-a - javalis e cervos são suas vitimas principais, além de peixes e roedores aquáticos em rios -, o Knucker Sérvio está entre as raças mais populares em exibições, facilmente reconhecível pelos seus chifres longos, de cor acobreada.
      Culturas pré-romanas já tinham essas corpulentas feras como companheiros de caça e guardiões, classicamente adornando seu couro com pinturas simbólicas e seus longos chifres com colares de osso e dentes de animais que eles ajudaram a localizar. Um único Knucker Sérvio seria capaz de aumentar em até cinco vezes o sucesso das caçadas de um tribo nômade, sendo proibido a qualquer um o abate de um desses animais a não ser que já fosse muito velho - o que para termos dracônicos seria algo como 200 anos. Durante o domínio romano, as províncias da Ilíria e da Mésia Superior eram um lugar perigoso para estas feras, então caçadas pelos longos chifres metálicos ou para lutarem em arenas por toda Europa. Na Idade Média e também na Idade Moderna, pouco de atividade humana se abalou sobre essa já rara variedade de knucker, já que a região dos Bálcãs era habitada principalmente por eslavos, históricos cavaleiros de dragões, bizantinos, cuja religião preservava as feras dos caçadores católicos, e por muçulmanos, que veem os dragões como uma dádiva de Alá para o mundo. Foi após o século XIX que as coisas se complicaram para todos os dragões que habitavam os Bálcãs, que se tornaria palco de revoluções, conflitos armados e limpezas étnicas durante quase toda a extensão do século XX. Atualmente, dragonologistas do mundo todo penam para encontrar essas criaturas em seu habitat, já que é comumente dito que os maiores indivíduos em cativeiro não chegam aos pés da majestade de um Knucker Sérvio selvagem.
